Yoga for the 7 Chakras: A Pose for Each
Updated April 2026
Yoga and the chakra system come from the same lineage — and they were designed to work together. Specific poses target specific energy centers, and a balanced asana practice naturally cycles through all seven over time.
Here's the most effective pose for each chakra, with the breath and aromatherapy pairings that deepen the work.
Anchor your practice with scent.
Apply a chakra-aligned essential oil before your practice — scent reaches the limbic system faster than thought.
Shop Essential Oil Blends →Root — Mountain Pose (Tadasana)
Stand tall, feet rooted, weight distributed evenly. Inhale length up the spine; exhale grounding through the feet. The simplest, most overlooked pose — and the one that anchors the entire practice. Pair with: Kanya I Am Grounded blend.
Sacral — Bound Angle (Baddha Konasana)
Seated, soles of the feet together, knees opening. Hip-opening poses physically activate the sacral. Stay for 2–3 minutes; let the body release on its own timeline. Pair with: I Am Passionate.
Solar Plexus — Boat Pose (Navasana)
Seated, lift legs and torso to form a V; hands extended. Builds heat in the upper abdomen — the chakra's physical seat. Hold for 30 seconds; rest; repeat. Pair with: I Am Confident.
Heart — Camel Pose (Ustrasana)
Kneeling backbend that opens the chest fully. One of the most emotionally activating poses — backbends often release stored grief. Approach gently; rest in child's pose afterward. Pair with: I Am Joyful.
Throat — Fish Pose (Matsyasana)
Lying on the back, arch the chest and tilt the crown of the head toward the floor — opens the throat directly. Stay for 1–2 minutes. Pair with humming or chanting HAM. Pair with: I Am Open.
Third Eye — Child's Pose (Balasana) with forehead pressed
From kneeling, fold forward with arms outstretched, forehead resting on the mat. The slight pressure on the brow point physically activates the third eye. Stay for several breaths. Pair with: I Am Peace.
Crown — Headstand (Sirsasana) — or Easy Pose with hands at the crown
Inverting brings blood to the crown chakra. If headstand isn't accessible, sit in easy pose and rest hands lightly on the top of the head, attention drawn upward. Pair with: I Am Peace.
How to sequence them
For a complete chakra-balancing flow, move through the poses in order — root to crown — for two to three minutes each. The full sequence takes 15–20 minutes and addresses all seven energy centers in one session.
For daily practice, focus on whichever chakra feels most out of alignment. A single pose, held for several minutes with attention on breath, often does more than a 30-minute multi-chakra flow.
Why scent matters
Pairing yoga with aromatherapy creates a multi-sensory anchor — your body learns to associate the scent with the state, and over time the scent alone starts to return you there. Apply a drop of the chakra-aligned blend to wrists or the chakra's physical location before you begin.
Every Kanya formulation is layered like fine fragrance, with notes that evolve over the length of a practice. Six chakra-aligned blends, six intentions — same formulation across body oil, essential oil blend, and roll-on.
